Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful diagnostic tool for many conditions. It can create detailed 3D images of organs and tissues in the body, and demand for the test is skyrocketing. This is especially true at St. Michael’s Hospital.
But with a $3-million investment from the Honey & Barry Sherman Legacy Foundation, that’s about to change.
This transformational gift, together with contributions from other generous donors, is enabling St. Michael’s to build a state-of-the-art MRI facility that will increase the hospital’s MRI capacity by 25%, a dramatic improvement in care for thousands of patients a year.
Set to open in 2025, the facility will expedite access to medical imaging, significantly reduce wait times and enable timely diagnosis for multiple conditions. The MRI is being sited and specially equipped to serve the patient population of the St. Michael’s BARLO MS Centre – the largest MS clinical centre in the world – and will enable timely access and more effective treatment planning for every MS patient.
